August 2017. Coventry City are about to embark on a season in English football’s fourth tier.  

It’s a dramatic fall for a club that, in the not-too-distant past, had spent 34 unbroken years in the top flight.  

This was a very different club to that of its Premier League days. Since relegation in 2001, Coventry City had failed to mount any meaningful charge back to the top. By the summer of 2017, they were in a dire state.
