Update: The story below ran on The Phoenix on 14 August. Since then, the Sky Blues have confirmed the signing of Sidiki Cherif on a permanent deal thought to be worth in excess of £20m. He has signed a long-term contract.
With Frank Lampard confirming that a quad tear will keep Haji Wright sidelined for an as-yet-unknown length of time, the Sky Blues are suddenly looking a little light up top.
That leaves Ellis Simms and Brandon Thomas-Asante as the only fit recognised strikers in the squad. It becomes more concerning when you consider that Thomas-Asante has spent much of pre-season playing out wide, potentially leaving the bench short of attacking options.
