‘I love Brandon,’ Gary Neville beamed, speaking on The Overlap shortly after Brandon Thomas-Asante had come off the bench and proved the difference in Ghana’s World Cup opener against Panama.
Deep into stoppage time, Thomas-Asante, who had come on in the 58th minute, burst down the left and played the ball across the face of goal for Caleb Yirenkyi to net the only goal of the match.
Neville, who knew the Sky Blues striker from his time at Salford, was full of praise, as was co-host Ian Wright. The pair, along with many others, expected that there would be more to come. They, along with Coventry fans and, of course, Thomas-Asante himself, would be greatly disappointed.
