The Phoenix reported last week that Stephen Mfuni was on Coventry City’s radar – and now it has emerged that a deal to bring the Manchester City youngster to the club is close.
Mfuni, who spent the latter half of last season on loan at Watford, is a highly-rated 18-year-old left-sided defender. We are waiting for confirmation on whether the proposed move will be permanent or a loan, but The Phoenix understands that Manchester City were keen to send Mfuni to a Premier League club this season for the next stage of his development and a permanent deal was not in the offing.
He played the bulk of his eight Watford appearances at left-sided centre-half but can also operate at left-back.
