The introduction of VAR was supposed to bring an end to debates over refereeing decisions, but tonight at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, Coventry City left with a list of grievances as long as your arm following a bitterly frustrating 3-1 defeat.

The officials took a lengthy look at an incident just before half-time involving James Tarkowski. The Everton defender appeared to jump with a hand across the face of Ethan Pinnock before coming back down with a handful of Caleb Yirenkyi's hair. VAR dismissed both claims.

The Yirenkyi hair pull looked particularly clear, but the officials decided there was insufficient evidence to overturn the on-field decision. The Sky Blues were denied what Jamie Redknapp and Callum Wilson agreed in their half-time analysis looked like a stonewall penalty.
