What Carl Rushworth transfer tells us about Coventry City

It’s done. The transfer saga of the summer is finally over – Carl Rushworth has signed for Coventry City in a deal reported to be worth up to £30m.
It is thought that the Sky Blues will pay £22.5m for Rushworth with further payments through add-ons as well as a sell-on clause and an option for Brighton to have first refusal should Rushworth be on his way out of the CBS. He has signed a long-term contract.
The deal says a great deal about where Coventry City now find themselves as a football club. I was told by multiple sources during several points since the end of the season right up until even last week that Brighton were reluctant to sanction a permanent move. They favoured a loan deal that would give them a degree of flexibility should their first choice Bart Verbruggen leave either this summer (which they believe is unlikely) or next year (thought to be a realistic scenario).
