I Hope the FA Don’t Read This – Frank Lampard Has Become Exactly What England Need

England thought Thomas Tuchel would finally solve the one problem Gareth Southgate never could: winning the biggest knockout games.
Instead, after taking the lead against Argentina, England retreated, surrendered control and lost. Looking back, the Scooby-Doo joke almost wrote itself. Underneath the Tuchel mask...was Gareth Southgate.
I shared an image depicting exactly that on Instagram and it attracted thousands of likes. That got me thinking. If Tuchel couldn't solve England's biggest tactical problem, perhaps I know someone who can. Frank Lampard.
First of all, I am in no way advocating for the FA to come knocking at Lampard's door (he has plenty to be getting on with at the CBS). I would say there is little to no chance of Tuchel losing his job at this point. Looking at the World Cup as a whole, the semi final was a baffling misstep rather than a problematic pattern.
