We need to talk about Jay Dasilva.
In my book Back At Last, I spoke at length about the diminutive full-back and his journey from bit-part player to nailed-on first-teamer. In light of Dasilva’s superb start to the Premier League season, I have revisited that text and added some updated reflections.
We must start with – what a bloody goal! Dasilva scored Coventry City’s first Premier League goal in 25 years. He joins Andy Whing as a staple of Sky Blues quiz questions. In years to come, when you’re asked, ‘Which player scored Coventry City’s first goal upon their return to the top flight in 2026?’ you will confidently answer: ‘The Welsh Roberto Carlos!’
