Kieran Maguire: From £20m to £180m – inside Coventry City’s Premier League financial reality

When Coventry City were relegated from the Premier League in 2001, the club generated £20m in total revenue. Next season, they will earn a minimum of £108m from television money alone.
According to football finance expert Kieran Maguire, that staggering contrast shows just how much football's financial landscape has changed during Coventry's 25-year absence from the top flight.
‘When Cov left the Premier League in 2001, they earned £20m in total, of which £10m came from TV money,’ he explains. ‘Next season, they will earn a minimum of £108m from the TV deal alone. For every place higher up the table they go they’ll earn another £2.5m. If they do a Sunderland, they could be looking at £130-135m.’
