May 1999. The Sky Blues have just finished 15th in the Premier League. It was a season that started with great promise, opening with a 2-1 win over Chelsea.
However, the sale of Dion Dublin to Aston Villa chopped the campaign off at the knees and City staggered through the year. The loss of Dublin had stripped the club of its talisman. Ahead of 1999/00, some star power was needed. Even so, few could have expected who was about to walk into the club.
